He was born on March 28, 1923 to Arthur J and Mary Ione (Blackmer) Huyck in Carson City, MI. Bob could complete whatever challenges he faced. Toward the end of his teaching career he became a residential builder and provided housing for many families, starting the Lakewood Mobile Home Estates in Lake Odessa. At 80 he was the General Contractor of the Lakewood Family Health Care (now known as Spectrum Pennock Family Health). Music was one of his favorite pastimes, he also enjoyed researching family genealogy. The grandchildren also brought much joy into his life.
His love for Christ lead him to be an active member of the Congregational Churches in both Crystal, MI and Lake Odessa, MI. He was involved with the Lake Odessa Historical Society, the Lions Club, 1st families of Ionia County, moving of the Depot and helping with the design of the Depot Museum and Grand Marshall of the Lake Odessa Fair. For several years he was active with the New Horizons Youth Ministry, with one of the group homes in the Dominican Republic being named in his and Doris’s honor.
In the last few years he could be seen driving his green electric car or golf cart uptown for his morning coffee and to visit with his friends at C&R’s.
