Marian Francis Gillette 95, of Lake Odessa passed away peacefully August 9, 2019 at SKLD in Ionia. She was born April 28, 1924 in Detroit, MI to Albert & Bessie Tomlian. After graduating High School she joined the Women Army Air Corp for the last 18 months of WWII , training and testing pilots in instrument flying using the Link trainers. She later met and married Harold Gillette in 1947 and was happily married until his death in 1974. Harold & Marian were blessed with 5 children and moved the family to Lake Odessa in 1965 when they purchased Gillette’s Sport Shop on the lake. Marian was an incredible seamstress which eventually led to a job offer at EBI Breakthru where she worked as a shop foreman for 17 years until she retired at 70. She was a member of St Edwards Catholic Church and a life time member of American Legion Post 153 in St Johns MI.
She will be dearly missed by her daughters Cindy Gillette, Patty Schoonmaker and Mary Gillette, daughters-in-law Kris Gillette and Darlene Gillette, 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She is also survived by her brothers John (Judy) Tomlian and Jerome Tomlian along with many special family friends.
Marian was proceeded death by her parents, her husband, her sons Rick and Harold Gillette, brothers Norm, Tom, Frank and James, sisters, Margaret, Lucille, Gretta, Dorothy, Martha and Suzanne and a great grandson Morgan Gillette.
As Marian was an avid reader audio books became an important part of her life when she lost her sight. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Library for the Blind or Books for Kids.
